The City and The Rocks

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

Since today was one of my free days, Clare and Rachel decided to pick me up in the morning to run a few more errands for the Solomon’s and then to have lunch and go into the city.  After my run, they arrived at around 10:30 AM and we headed off to the camping store to get an extra water bottle and water purification tablets.  After finding them, Rachel drove Clare and I around Olympic Park, which was absolutely beautiful.  The residents still use the stadium and ground for sporting events and concerts and many people were running through the park.  Rachel was so generous to drive Clare and I around all day and to act as our tour guide!

After a few stops, we headed to Balmain to meet Rachel’s two friends for lunch.  They were very friendly and we enjoyed our Mediterranean meal with many laughs.  Rachel had a good idea to stop at this famous bakery and get their macaroons and head down to the harbor to catch the ferry.  I definitely wasn’t opposed to that idea! Her friend, Laura, sat with us as we enjoyed the view from Manley.  We hopped on the ferry and saw the most magnificent sights.  We sailed right under the Sydney Bridge and right past the opera house.  Certainly a much smoother ride than the scuba boat!  We docked and walked around the harbor and Rachel showed us the Opera House.  We then walked to The Rocks which is a part of Sydney that has many shops and restaurants.  After popping in a few stores, we headed to the ferry because both of our families are meeting tonight for dinner.

When I got home it was about 6 PM and Mrs. Bell came home around 7.  We went to Mr. Bell’s cafĂ© with the Vosilas and enjoyed a delicious meal.  Both of these families are so generous to take Clare and me in.  Our dinner conversation carried until around 10.  (To mom-Mr. Vosila actually worked for Unilever, IBM, and UT) After sharing jokes a laughter I am exhausted.  Tomorrow I will go meet with Sister Rose Mary once more to finalize and then headed to the Bell’s beach house.
