Departure Date! Stay Tuned!

The Solomon Islands are off the eastern coast of Australia and east of Papua New Guinea.  The UK established a protectorate over the Solomon's in 1890.  Around 1976, self-government and independence were achieved. The Solomon Islands were also a key part of World War II, particularly the battle for Guadalcanal in 1942.  Rife with history and beautiful scenery, the Solomon Islands are comprised of the mainlands Choiseul, Malaita, New Georgia, San Cristobal, and Santa Isabel. I will be traveling to Honiara, the capital of the islands and the capital of the Guadalcanal province.  Part of my stay will also be in Auki, the provincial capital of Malaita.  Melanesian pidgin is primarily spoken, and the population is mainly Melanesian followed by Polynesian.  My stay will be with the Dominican Sisters and Bishop of the Islands.
